(an abbreviated excerpt from the Rural Arts Program web site:) Program Description The Rural Arts & Culture Program is a Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs pilot project funding arts and cultural projects in Michigan’s rural communities. Organizations in 39 Michigan counties were eligible to apply for funding in the first year (2000 - 2001): Alcona, Antrim, Baraga, Barry, Benzie, Branch, Chalevoix, Clare, Dickenson, Eaton, Gladwin, Hillsdale, Huron, Ionia, Keweenaw, Lapeer, Lake, Leelanau, Livingston, Luce, Mackinac, Mason, Mecosta, Menominee, Missaukee, Monroe, Montcalm, Montmorency, Newago, Oceana, Ogemaw, Oscola, Oscada, Otsego, Sanilac, Schoolcraft, Tuscola, Van Buren and Wexford Rural Arts & Culture Program is coordinated by the MSU Museum. Successful rural art and culture projects will build and strengthen communities by supporting artists and humanities scholars in community building activities. Resulting community benefits include leadership development, strengthened partnerships among community organizations, tourism opportunities, audience development, and arts and humanities experiences adding balance to lives and communities. • Grant appliations from $3,000 to $10,000 will be considered. • Request of MCACA funds may not exceed 1/2 of the project's total cost. • A match of 100% is necessary. 50% of the request amount is required in cash. The remaining match may come from in-kind support. |
