| MAGIK: Making the Arts Grow in Kalamazoo (an abbreviated excerpt from the MAGIK program guidelines:) Deadline: October 8, 2001 For Current School Year The MAGIK program provides up to $200 a day in artist fees to eligible Kalamazoo County schools to bring artists of all disciplines into the classroom for one to five day residency programs (up to $1,000 total). Arts activities will take place during spring and fall terms. The goals are to promote a well-balanced education through integration of the arts (dance, language arts, media arts, music, theater, visual arts) into the regular curriculum; to increase opportunities for learning through the creative process; and to provide artists as role models for employment opportunities. The purpose of MAGIK from the teachers standpoint is to learn grant writing skills that can be used for larger projects. Eligibility. - Public and non-public schools in Kalamazoo County. - Grade levels K through 12 inclusive of all populations. - For programs taking place during upcoming spring term. Guidelines - MAGIK funds may only be used to pay artist fees. The Arts Council will pay up to $200/day in artist fees up to a maximum level of $1,000 for one to five day residencies, pending sufficient funding. - Although matching funds are not required, applications that document need or additional funding sources that include school or PTO funds, or corporate or private sponsors, will receive special consideration. - A commitment of staff and/or volunteer time to coordinate the program is required. - Only one application per building is permitted. - Integration of the program into the general school curriculum is required. Restrictions Performance activities (assemblies) without any participatory or hands-on experience for the students are not funded. |
