| (an abbreviated except from the Art Serve web site:) Creative Writers in Schools (CWIS) provides funding for creative writer residencies in Michigan public and nonpublic schools. Funding guidelines allow for $200/day for the creative writer with a maximum of $2000 for residencies of 3 to 10 days. CWIS is the oldest artist residency program in the nation and provides $40,000 annually for creative writers to work with students and teachers in schools across Michigan. Applications require that teachers and an approved writer from the CWIS roster mutually develop a schedule providing opportunities for the writer to work directly with students and, when desired, provide workshops for teaching staff.
